How to amplify your creative thinking

Words by Philippa White

While the past two years have been hugely challenging, remember that what you learn during tough times is often what makes you better. The ‘crucible moments’ in our lives – the heat and the pressure – can be hard. But know that heat and pressure also create diamonds.

With every challenge there is opportunity. And the obstacle is the way forward. A chance to learn, grow, and improve. You must think on your feet and get creative. As a result, you discover untapped resources and potential. ‘Necessity is the mother of invention’, as they say.

Creativity is key to helping you find the resources to turn life’s proverbial lemons into lemonade – and thriving as a result. Amplify your creative thinking and you can be more open to opportunities and ready for challenges.

Try the following tips to discover your untapped potential.

Seek inspiration in the unexpected

Switch up your daily routine to prevent you from getting stuck in a rut. Small, simple changes can make a big difference. Read material outside of your go-to sources, for example. If you don’t often read the Financial Times, do that occasionally. You may only understand a portion of it, but that portion can be inspiring in unexpected ways.

Expand your network

Look to spend time with different people. Talking with folk from industries and backgrounds different from your own is powerful and fascinating. It opens channels in your thinking you didn’t know were there. You’ll also be able to empathize more, be more culturally intelligent, and see things in new ways. And whilst you do that, you’ll find yourself discovering new insights, and seeing more of what you know and what you have to offer the world.

Push through boundaries

The best way to open your mind and learn is to push yourself out of your comfort zone and be truly challenged.  If you want to unleash your true potential, you need to shake things up a bit.

Be the change you want to see

Challenge the status quo, don’t conform. According to Einstein, the definition of insanity is: “doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results…”. He’s not wrong.
If times are tough, and you know things can be different, then be that change. You have it in you. Be brave, dare to be different, and you’ll find the solution you’re looking for.

Leonardo da Vinci, Albert Einstein and Paul Smith all share a similar trait. Curiosity. To be constantly inspired, you need to be constantly curious. Be open-minded. The ability to turn constraints into opportunities will always be important for creating success.
